Summary
The Engineering Manager (EM) has broad technical knowledge and experience with design and construction of high voltage projects (i.e. transmission, distribution, substations) along with demonstrated abilities to manage and lead teams (local and remote). The successful candidate will demonstrate both technical and interpersonal skills to build, train, and manage daily operations of the engineering team. The position requires the EM to communicate thoroughly and to work closely with ownership, colleagues, and clients (internal and external) to fully execute and lead projects from developing scope of work to construction support. Leveraging their knowledge and experience, the EM works in close coordination with a project manager (PM) to manage and execute the engineering and design components of projects while the PM is responsible for schedule and budget. The EM is an experienced, competent engineer who understands the technical requirements of electric utility line projects of any complexity and can lead, guide, and advise all around them.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develops and implements a project execution plan for the technical aspect of engineering projects. This plan will include information such as resource allocations and task durations from conceptual design through construction.
- Oversee daily operations of engineering, design, and drafting staff. Lead by example; organize meetings, provide daily coaching, and mentor staff.
- Provides project metrics to PM and senior leaders on a regular basis which should illustrate current state of the project execution plan.
- Supports the technical aspect of scope, schedule, and budget, including proposal development, work breakdown structure development and implementation, progress assessment, risk assessment/mitigation, change management, and schedule management.
- Assigns project tasks and provides technical guidance to project team members.
- Develops a partnership with the PM, whereas the PM is responsible for scope, schedule, budget, and client management, and the EM is responsible for technical execution of the project.
- Coordinates and/or performs quality checks and reviews for all project deliverables per ETA Consulting’s quality requirements, processes, and procedures to deliver a high-quality product to the client. Performs quality checks and/or reviews of projects from other teams on an as needed basis.
- Direct, mentor, train, and/or supervise one or more engineers, designers, or drafters locally and remotely while fostering a culture of collaboration.
- Ability to lead multiple projects concurrently, utilizing teams in the same or remote locations.
- Works with senior engineers and technical leaders to identify and develop specific technical expertise. Builds additional infrastructure to support project work, efficiency, quality, and to further ETA’s standards for excellence.
- Willing to attend training and seminars focused on further development and understanding of complex concepts related to their discipline.
- May assist with developing technical papers and/or presentations that showcase ETA’s technical capabilities for clients, at industry conferences, or other events.
- Participate in project reviews outside the engineering department and support senior leaders as needed.

Required Qualifications
- B.S. degree in Engineering (civil, mechanical, electrical).
- PE license.
- 4+ years of Transmission Line design experience required.
- 6+ years of overall experience, including prior project management.
- Previously demonstrated leadership capabilities and the ability to manage teams both locally and remotely.
- Proven track record of working collaboratively with diverse teams, regional departments, other technical managers, and project support staff.
- Broad knowledge of engineering concepts and theories related to various disciplines (i.e. electrical, civil, mechanical).

The Design Manager – Transmission & Distribution has broad technical knowledge and experience with analysis, design, and construction of overhead and underground high voltage electric systems along with demonstrated abilities to manage and lead teams (local and remote). The successful candidate will demonstrate both technical and interpersonal skills to build, train, and manage daily operations of the ETA design team. The position requires the Design Manager to communicate thoroughly and to work closely with ownership, colleagues, and clients (internal and external) to fully execute and lead projects from developing estimates to construction support. Leveraging their knowledge and experience, the Design Manager works in close coordination with a project manager (PM) to manage and execute the design components (analysis, BOM creation, project drafting) of projects while the PM is responsible for schedule and budget. The successful candidate has a proven track record of success leading teams and who understands technical requirements of electric utility line projects of any complexity. This position requires an intimate knowledge of client technical standards, design manuals, processes & procedures, proper formatting and layout (for drafting assignments), and client preferences. Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs work which involves the design for the installation and/or removal of overhead and underground electrical distribution & transmission lines. Assignments usually include design calculations, and interpretation of engineering drawings, and use of technical specifications.
- Performs analysis calculations using SPIDAcalc or O-Calc.
- Performs hand calculations using client standards, charts, tables, and design manuals for capital and OEM projects. Projects may be located overhead, underground, or both as part of a single job package.
- Review and prepare requests for information, scopes of work, field change orders, and cost estimates (quantities for materials and labor).
- Helps to coordinate work of multiple engineering disciplines, as well as drafting/CAD work for assigned projects.
- Must possess good organizational skills for tracking project documents such as project photographs, technical submittals, and vendor and shop drawings.
- Works with junior designers to develop skills required to produce quality distribution design plans.
- Assigns project tasks and provides technical guidance to project team members.
- Coordinates and/or performs quality checks and reviews for all design project deliverables per ETA Consulting’s quality requirements, processes, and procedures to deliver a high-quality product to the client.

Summary
The Civil/Structural Designer III – Transmission & Distribution will assist technical teams of engineers and drafters to create detailed Civil project documents using 2D and 3D drawing software (AutoCAD and Civil 3D). The successful candidate will assist with the research, preparation, and creation of various types of engineering or construction drawings and documents. The Civil-focused Designer will be responsible for collaboration with project teams on multiple projects in a timely and cost-effective manner to meet client, contractual and company requirements. Our Civil/Structural Designer -T&D possesses knowledge or familiarity with engineering discipline standards, codes, and systems having previously worked on similar or like projects. The Transmission & Distribution Designer examines drawings for errors and has a keen eye for detail. The Civil/Structural Transmission & Distribution Designer uses drawing production software such as Civil 3D, AutoCAD/MicroStation, and/or Revit to create project and construction documents.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide technical and design support for engineering studies and earthworks construction.
- Prepares new drawings and revises existing engineering drawings from specific sketches, layouts, and/or markups using AutoCAD.
- Prepares new drawings and revises existing engineering drawings from specific sketches, layouts, and/or markups using Civil 3D.
- Create, edit, and label alignments, Civil 3D parcels, and corridors.
- Create, use, and edit Civil 3D labels.
- Create feature lines and surfaces.

- Good organizational skills within AutoCAD (model space, paper space, layout organization).

- Past project experience in the following areas: subdivisions, mixed-use, and commercial land development projects, or public works (roadway and/or utility design).
- Knowledge of Bluebeam REVU to make comments and make drawing updates from provided markups.
- Drafting and designing practices in PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, SpidaCalc and OCalc for electric utility, electrical distribution design, engineering design, or construction support.
- Knowledge of 3D drafting software such as Revit or Inventor.
